Proper way to clean a cylinder head?
I bought a b16 head and been meaning to clean out all the oil and gunk that has collected on it. My main concern are the rusty collant wells. i dont want it rusting up more then it has already. how do i get all the rust out of there? and would it be ok to just use degreaser and a hose to clean all of teh oil out?
since i have so much time on my hands might as well spend it on my head right?

your head does not consist of any steel to rust besides your cams valves and springs
also the rockers and a few hardware pieces. you should not have any problems with rust where the coolant runs. try to wipe it and you will see that the "rust" wipes right off.
someone correct me if i am wrong

Hes right, its not rust, there maybe some corrosion in the cooling system, probably white fuzzy looking ****. It does no harm. You can clean it if itll make you feel anybetter about it. Degreaser is fine for the oil residue. You may want to use a light coat of wd 40 or penetrating lubricant after so that the valve spring seats and the few other steel parts dont rust.
When i have b16 heads laying around, I put a light coat of wd 40 on the rockers because those seem to be the only things that acumulate rust spots! Then i cover the head with a big shop towel, and they are pretty good for a month or so! Even rust in the valve area will be gone with in a few seconds of starting th ecar once installed, But i generally clean them anyways!
