Default Procedure To Install New Wheels; Running Without Balancing?

Hey guys,

I'm anxious to get my new wheels on my Integra. I'm thinking of just installing them like one would install a wheel on the road: jack and hand-tools. Sorry if I sound like a dipshit, but what do I need to get done to new wheels and tires? Balancing? Alignment?

I just want to slap the wheels and their stock tires (both used) on there right now because within a week I will be putting Pirelli rubber on the wheels. I don't want to get them balanced now and in 7 days too. Will I be OK hand-installing the wheels and not getting any pro work done on them for a while?

Sorry if these are moronic questions,
Ben

Hand-installing wheels? I never knew people brought their cars to a shop just to get wheels put on. As far as balancing goes, if the wheels are used they were probably balanced already. Look for little metal weights glued along the inside and\or backside of the wheel. If there aren't any or the wheels are new you will probably get vibration and a wobbly feeling at certain speeds. I'm not sure about the safety issues but I wouldn't recommend it. Be patient man, a few days isn't bad to do it the right way. You won't need a shop to put them on, just jack up each end of the car and remove wheel, install wheel.

out of balance wheels can cause damage to the wheel bearings.

Yes, the wheels are used and do have weights on them. I can go ahead and put these on myself with no problems; I'll just need to get them balanced when I get the new tires?

Thanks,
Ben

Yes, many shops won't install new tires without balancing the wheel afterwards. You should be ok to use them in the meantime.

if you're not used to putting wheels on, you may have the urge to CRANK the lug nuts on. DON'T!!! I never allows shops that mount my tires to put my wheels on because they always, ALWAYS have their air tools set WAY too high. Overtourquing
