Default PLEASE HELP ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS

Have been having problems with my 1990 DX Sedan starting. It all started this winter when it got really cold here, like -30 -40 type cold. The car just wouldn't start one day. It had a little bit of juice, enough to turn on the accessory lights and what not once the key was in the acc. position but once I tried to start the car it died. No juice, nothing. So I jump started it with my other car and it was ok. Provided you didn't turn it off. Being as how I don't use the Honda all that much it wasn't a big deal to have to jumpstart it every now and then. Would have been nicer not to have to have jumpstarted it but whatever. So one day I turned the car off and didn't turn the headlights off because it didnt really matter, with the dead batter (???) the lights wouldnt stay on anyway. So I'm out in my driveway working on my Jeep and holy ****, the Honda's headlights are on full blast! bright as hell! and they stay like that. Kinda freaked me out actually. So then I jumped in and tried to turn it over, died instantly. No more headlights. Another time I was going to jumpstart it and I connected the jumper cables to the Honda's battery and was about to go connect the other end to my Jeep and I dropped the positive connector for the other end of the cables and it touched something in the Honda's engine compartment, probably something metal and it came to life. The keys were in the ignition and the door was open so I could hear it start beeping. I went it and the car started right up!! Without the other end connected to the idling Jeep. So today I pulled out the battery to have a look at it and it looked like it had exploded. Both sides were puffed way out and it looked cracked on the top. I think it had frozen somehow. Not sure if the case got cracked and that allowed the battery to freeze? dont know. But I took the battery to the auto parts store and they tested the cold crank amps or whatever theyre called and it was dead. had like 2 volts of charge. So I bought another battery. Here's the kicker, like a ******* idiot I connected the pos. to the negative battery post and vice versa. I got a spark and then it died. As soon as I saw what I did I flipped the battery around and conencted it back up. Wont start at all. No electric power at all.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?? What damage would I have caused by connecting the battery backwards and reversing the polarity? Is there a fuse in the engine compartment that would blow to accommodate that polarity reversal? This sucks....

Thanks.
