Piston rings upside down ?
In regards to the piston ring set i recieved with my arias pistons.
looking for proper direction of piston ring in the cyl bore.
meaning... upside down, right side up.
heres what i found on hastings site...
http://www.hastingsmfg.com/Ser...n.htm
2nd compression ring:
Some people say dot facing up, other say bevel facing up.
iv spent time on the phone with arias, 2 diff people, 1 has one response, other has a diff respnse.
If hastings is in fact arias ring manufacture, then i belive i answered this question myself already...
What do u guys think ?
is it a general rule of thumb that the "dot" indication should face up ? or bevel face any one direction over the other ?
Top compression ring:
no markings, no bevel ?
so i assume either direction would work... there is no right or wrong way ?

i would sooner trust the "bevel" edge of the piston ring for direction over the dot.
there could have been a manufacturing error in regards to the dot but the bevelled edge is always supposed to face the proper direction.

Top ring: 1) Bevel up
2) Dot or numbers/letters up
3) Either direction if no bevel or number/letters
Second ring: 1) Bevel down
2) Dot or number/letters up
In twenty five years I have never run into rings that were number/lettered wrong(but your right it could happen)
