p08 ecu?? what car is this from?
i just got the skunk 2 conversion harness from obd 2 to obd 1. the same person has a p08, which he says is pretty close to the p28 ecu. could i just use the p08 with the different chips in it? its goin on a 00 GSR thanx for your help

the p08 came from the jdm 1.5l sohc vtec civic. 92-95 obd1....its similar to the p28, but I find it more difficult to chip.
the usdm VX ecu is p07
the usdm VX ecu is p07

ditto.......also, the p08 is made to run a 1.5 l sohc vtec, the gsr motor is a 1.8l dohc vtec. Wouldnt be safe to use the p08, unless its chipped. But then again, if you dont have the mods to back it up, chipping would be a waste. Also, what Tbone stated above, the gsr has the secondary butterflys in the stock intake manifold, which no other ecu reads except the stock gsr ecu p72 and the stock h22 ecu which would be a p13.

alright, but i forgot to mention i am putting on a skunk2 intake manifold and its chipped. i have both mugen and skunk2 chips for it. so, now can i use it???

whether you chip the P08 (VTi) ecu or not, it will still run your GSR engine. But it won't run your GSR engine at its full potential, not till you have it chipped that is.
The P08 is a jdm version of our P28 ecu, its exactly the same program wise, but physically its obviously smaller in size.
btw, if you need to have it reprogrammed hit me up. I've done numerous P08 ecu's and other small body type JDM civic ecu's as well.
FYI,
It seems people get confused when 'D15B' is mentioned, as our 92-95 (gas-saver)civic VX uses a D15B block as does the JDM EG4 VTi model also uses a D15B block but it is not a gas-saver engine...its exactly like our 92-95 Si/EX D16Z6 engine minus the fact that its 1.5L instead of 1.6L. The VTi uses a P08 ecu and the US VX uses a P07 ecu, as already mentioned by others...

Katman I know your the god of Chipping...but my friend is in it too....and he tryed to chip a VX and screwed it all up....It's the only ECU he ever had problems chipping...He knows his stuff...he had my chip for my FI setup and it runs great...Anyways...Is there some type of trick to VX ecus...
and again, the p08 is not a vx ecu. it's for a d15b from japan. i have one running my mini me right now. and the chip on the p08 does not have the same program on it as the p28. the p08 runs a bit leaner and has more advanced timming curve.
i installed the p08 ecu into my car, and nothing. it cranks, but wont start. it almost seems as if its not bypassing my immobilizer. ive also changed the chips, just to make sure, but still nothing. n e body have n e ideas?

have you tried resetting your ecu yet? or disconnecting your battery, wait 15 minutes, then plug it back in.......also, make sure that your ecu is plugged in all the way, as well as the obd2-1 conversion harness........
all of that has been done. i tried in a buddys SIR, and it worked fine. so someone tells me that the SIR and the GSR are different harnesses. apparently im missing one wire (a15-a16, whatever this means, i think thats what he said). something about no fuel. is this easy to add to the harness, or should i get a new one??

Anyways...Is there some type of trick to VX ecus...
-- no there isn't. Most VX/P07 ecu's use a funky motherboard and are crappy (run like ish) for reprogramming, but there are some rare versions of the P07 ecu that use the same P28 motherboard, and those can be programmed just like any other P28. But it sounds like you have one of the regular common crap-*** P07 ecu's.

Hi katman hope your still on hear, I’m looking at using a p08 ecu for my b16a2 block with b17 dc2 type r pr3-3 head and ruining it with an sst chip and chrome will this work okay just a double check before I go ahead thanks!
Yes you should be able to use an SST chip a Crome made program. Make sure it is chipped properly though. The surface mount latch chip takes a little more finesse to install vs a USDM OBD1 ecu.
