Default overheating problem

so i have a 89 crx si and have never had a problem with it overheating until the other day. i was driving home from the bar and noticed my tempeture was rising so i pulled over checked everything out and noticed that my lower radiator hose was not hot it was cold and my upper hose was hot. so i figured the thermostat can't be opening then so i just pulled the thermostat out and ran no thermostat until the next day. everything was fine no overheating temp was at the normal temp. so i bought a new thermostat today and everything was fine for a while then it starting overheating again and the lower hose was again cold. so i took it out drove it around for a little bit with no thermostat and it started running hot again i pulled over and the lower radiator hose was cold again. i don't understand how the hose can be cold if nothing is stopping it from flowing. my fan is working fine by the way to. does anyone have any ideas or know anything i can check, any help would be appreciated thanks

You could have air bubbles in your system which will stop coolant flow. Try doing a good flush, making sure to bleed out all the air bubbles.

I would also check the water pump. 94

i am still having this problem guy's does anyone know if the coolant tempeture switch under the dizzy if it goes bad could this be my problem i replaced with another one of a car from the junkyard because i was having hard cold starts awhile bad but didn't seem to fix the hard starts so i just left the one from the junkyard in.any other idea's though i've bled the coolant system several times. my lower radator hose seems the be hot sometimes and sometimes not which is kind of strange to me because even when i ran no thermostat at all it was still cold sometime when the coolant should be flowing constantly. how would i go about checking my waterpump is there even a way i can check it

You will have to remove the pump to check it.
If engine coolant is not circulating it can only be a blockage or a problem with the pump, seems like you have checked everything else, leaving the pump as the only posibility.

It's an 89, woulden't hurt to replace the pump anyway, do the timing belt at the same time. 94
