oil pump issues, please help...
ok, so like 40-50 miles after turbo'ing my del sol i lost all oil pressure. the turbo stopped getting oil, no oil came up through the oil passages to the head, etc....so i assumed oil pump failure. i just replaced the pump and am in the process of putting the car back together but it's dark so i had to stop. i pulled the cover off of the back of the old pump and check the gears inside and everything looked fine. no sign of excessive wear or anything i would call out of the ordinary. my question is, do any of you guys know what i should be looking for inside the pump that would give me signs of failure? also, if i find out it is not my pump, what else could it possibly be? motor is a d16z6 w/ 105k on it.
probably not enough oil pressure to go through all the oil lines you probably have..try adding extra oil like a quart or so past the max line and then run it and see if you get oil pressure or else do a better job on any oil lines you got goin on..check all your oil related seals maybe you got a leak somewhere..good luck
well, i have a new pump in there now, just have to put the rest of the motor back together to see if im still having low oil pressure problems. i know i dont have a leak ANYWHERE in my turbo related lines. i checked them countless times. before i totally lost oil pressure though, the car was throwing the low oil light on and off, but almost flickering pretty often right before the car totally lost oil pressure. i figured maybe it was the gears on the pump going out? well, i have the specs for the clearances in my haynes...i just have to get the feeler gauges to measure them. i just did a basic visual examination of the pump internals and everything looked ok. i guess i wont know until i measure the clearances on the gears themselves...
