OIL leak, wtf?
I took my car to get an oil change the other day...anyways, I have an oil leak...jack it up, there is oil all over the underside of the pan...no apparent cracks, I think I might change the oil....what should I torque the oil drain bolt to (96 sol). Also, id be going from mobil one 5w-30 to penzoil synthetic 10w-30....is this ok, even without replacing the oil filter? The filter was replaced prolly 1k miles ago.
THANKS GUYS! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
Re: OIL leak, wtf? (T25So)
take your oil pan off and put a new gasket on, make sure to criss cross the bolts, and you may need to take your header off

Im just gonna try to torque the oil dran bolt....what should it be torqued to? I dont have any torque wrenches, so how could I do it by hand?

Re: (T25So)
uh i work at a lube shop and we just tighten it by hand than give it 2 or 3 good tugs with a wrench, make sure you replace the drain plug gasket, thatll help too

hmmmm, well, theres just some yellow stuff around the drain plug and a washer....help?

jsut curious, why are you going to 10W-30 synthetic, are you boosted? Also i would do as mentioned earlier, and check the oil pan gasket. also just to be one the safe side i would check the oil filter, to make sure its tightly secured.

yeah you shouldnt do 10W-30 and i doubt its the oil filter, cause even a small filter leak will spwe oil everywhere very noticably when you turn the car on |
