Oil drain bolt stripped...Need help.
My wife took her car once to a shop for an oil change, and they stripped the bolt and I cant get it off. Need some suggestions of how to get it off. Thanks.
Craftsman makes a Bolt-Out kit that makes taking out stripped bolts a lot easier. Just make sure you buy a new drain bolt first.

Did they just strip the bolt head? or the thread of the bolt? If they striped the thread in the pan, I would just buy and install a new oil pan. If its just the bolt head you should be able to remove it with something like a good pair of chanel locks?
Don't tell me it was one of those dumb lube shacks that did it, was it?

im gessing it was just the head then huh?.... sometimes, if u use another socket, it will grip better, same size of course, just different brand or maybe even a 12pt.
yeah, thats what i figured too..
but turns out, that my 12 point 17mm got my plug out when my regular 6 point didnt. maybe the 6 pt was old or something.. but in my case the 12 worked better than my 6.
just trying to throw some ideas out there...

Life was much more complicated before I invested in those.

Definitely do that. But yes the kit does have the proper size for that. It really works wonders. I bought when I was changing a starter on a ford truck(you know how that can be lol). I stripped the bolt head and was going to easy out it but was at sears and found that set. It's probably one of the most useful tools I have.

If I take it back with a new bolt and tell them to fix it, do you think they will try to charge me for an oil change, since all the old oil will come out?
