Default Oil catch can installed wrong?

Hey guys, so I saw some one with a vented oil catch can and it seems like only the valve cover hose was the only one connected to the can. The other opening was plugged up where the other hose should have been connected to the pcv and what not.

The guy has a b18c1 with high compression and the basic bolt on stuff.

Isn't this whole set up installed incorrectly?

A catch can is meant to collect any excess blow-by that may result from high engine speed or poor valve cover baffling. Usually seen on turbocharged or supercharged cars.

The hose off the block baffle (the black box) leads to the PCV valve, and then that line runs to the intake manifold. This is the source of most oily residue in the intake manifold. The hose off the valve cover provides fresh filtered air into the valve cover, to keep crankcase pressure neutral or a bit negative, thus preventing a lot of external oil leaks.

Ideally any catch can would be situated between the block baffle and the PCV valve, to prevent oil for being ingested into the engine from this point.

A oil drain would need to be present to allow oil to be removed from the assembly. A high compression B18 should not require a catch-can unless the ring seal is very poor.
