why is that you cant use a OBD-2 distributor on a OBD-0 engine say if you rewire it? i know one is OBD-2 and the other isnt but i dont see why you can just change the plugs over and it would work.

anybody know?

OBD2 also has a timing map, much like a fule map, baced on RMP, TP, and load. The ECU of an OBD2 car will retard or advance the timing for max performance over the RPM band. This might also cause some problems when trying to convert.

Anything like this is going to be in the ECU, though. Not the distributer. I should also say that 1992-1995 distributers are not compatible with 1988-1991 ECUs (and vice versa). But 1992-1995 and 1996+ ECUs and distributers are completely compatible.

 

there is no such thing as OBD 0, it's either Per OBD or OBD or OBD1 or OBD2.. OBD stands for On board Diagnostic. SO how can you can it OBD0 - Call a Dealer ship like Honda and tell them that your civic as a OBD0 - the technician will tell you that you have no clue what you are talking about or just simply laugh at you..

 

who cares..........we say OBD0 cause the 0 means non.........its just a term dude. Just like saying B16A1 we know there isnt a one, but is signifies first Gen B16A....just another way we say things and most know what we mean.

That may be so. but however, I get so many of this kids at the dealership saying "I got a civic that's a OBD0." And I am thinking - This kid is really stupid or he just don't what the hell he is talking about. We make so fun of every kid that say that they got an OBD0 - It's like telling me that they have no on board diagnostic computer on their vehicle. My point is - If someone is wrong - I just to correct it, that's all DUDE! Well I guess, my civic as a b20T054 right! Well you know and I know the there is no such thing as b20t054. So... I pretty sure that you correct if told you that.

 

basically ....

Pre OBD distributors will only work with pre obd ecu's.
92+ dist will only work with 92+ ecu's

the teeth are different and the car wont start. no matter who wires it.
