Default NOT the regular idle surge problem.... but it's a problem

okay... so i have this em1... and whenever it's hot outside... (when i'm leaving work @ 5 and it's about 70-80).... my engine is idleing at about 200-400... obviously when it dips down to 2 it shakes a bit.... it's not consistent... as if you drive it for a while it will idle at 600-800 and then dip down to 200-400 until you drive it again... i'm thinking tps, or iac? .... any suggestions??

How many miles on the car? What does the maintenance history look like?

When was the last time these components were replaced (or services performed):

cap
rotor
plugs
wires
air filter
fuel filter
O2 sensor
timing belt
thermostat
set the valve lash
set the ignition timing
clean engine grounds
clean IACV
changed the coolant

Have you messed with either of the screws on the throttle body to try and correct this problem?

just adjusted the valve lash about 2 weeks ago... haven't touched any of the other things mentioned... haven't adjusted throttle body either because i just noticed the problem after adjusting the valves.... so i figured it's either something i did.... or something went bad/is going bad....

When I asked this "What does the maintenance history look like?", I was really looking for things like this "just adjusted the valve lash about 2 weeks ago...because i just noticed the problem after adjusting the valves".

So then...how sure are you that you adjusted the valves correctly? How exactly did you do it - did you make sure to set each cylinder to TDC on the compression stroke and adjust ONLY that cylinders' valves? Did you make sure the engine was completely cool? What did you set the valves too anyway?

yah... i have a factory manual and went through the sequence.... adjusted exh to .007 i believe... and intakes were set at .004... .004 for the intake was questionable because my manual (which is for a ls/gsr) gave this spec... where ProSis at work gave me .006.... i didn't burn any valves up so i figured it was str8.... adjusted idle screw today to see what would happen.... it does the same thing just at a higher rpm... when you come off the throttle it hovers at around 900-1100... when it sits for a minute it goes down to 500-600

A bit tight. From the EM1 (96-00 Civic Helms) manual:

Intake: .006-.007"
Exhaust: .007-.008"
