the ones on the left look like LS valves and the ones on the right look like vtec valves. The main reason i say that is the stem thhickness. The Ls has far thicker stems and the fact that the intake valve on the right looks to be a bit larger than the one on the left.

what are the letter codes on the faces?

on my ls valves, D is on the exhaust, R is on the intake, both like yours
on my 1st gen b16a, F is on exhaust and nothing is on intake
in ITR intake, nothing, but back cut like hell

retainers, id have to see the other side

yep that's exactly it. on the valves on the right, the exhaust valve is labeled with a F and the intake valve isn't labeled. btw, these are pics i took.

so, these are determined to be VTEC valves right? are all the VTEC exhaust valves use the same labeling procedure with the F on the exhaust valve and an unlettered intake valve? or are they specifically for b16's?

thnx in adv

here is the other side of the retainers:

as far as intake valves, neither my b16a valves or the integra type r valves have a letter on them, the main difference is the b16a's arent back cut and the ITR valves are backcut
do the retainers have 2 little dots on the top? i cant tell in the picture

what are their lengths? and stem thickness?
the vtec valves are thinner stems..

here's b18a stem size 6.5mm and the length is 106.3mm, face is 31mm(intake),(28mm exhaust)

vtec valves are Stem size 5.5mm and length is 102.5mm, face is 33mm (intake), (28mm exhaust)

as far as stem thickness goes the one on the left is thicker. and valve size, the ones on the right are larger (both intake and exhaust). so VTEC it is. but now, i need to know from which head.

what do you mean by backcut? i'm unfamiliar with that term.

oh yeah, no two dots. thnx again guys.

on a valve that is NOT backcut, the diameter of the stem from the top does not decrease, whereas on a backcut valve, the stem diameter decreases right before the big part of the valve

this helps with flow into the combustion chamber

as far as the retainers, im still not sure....my b16a(auto tranny, single valvespring) retainers have 2 little dots on the top it, and the ITR's dont, im not sure about the LS retainers because i havent looked at them in a while
