Need help ECU error code 15 - emergency, read!
So, I am on holidays, and have no access to mechanic shop or garage, even can not access internet so often. My problem is that today, in the morning, my Civic ( 1990, D16Z2 sohc non vtec) stopped two times during driving. It happend after I hit the gas pedal to overtake some vehicles, then after that (when I overtake them) it just "died"...engine check light went on and the engine shut off. I pulled over and tried to start it, and it started just fine. Before starting it, I checked the ECU for error codes ,and red code 15 from it. Code 15 is something about missing or wrong engine ignition signal. I have a feeling that the engine shuts off when I take it to higher RPM's. So, can anyone advise me what can I check on my one and try to solve the problem (maybe something has gone loose etc). Keep in mind that I have some toole on me, but I am on the island and have no access to any Honda mechanical garage, maybe just to some local electrical guy or mechanic. Please gimme some advice or help. Thanks!
If this is an intermittent problem it could be caused by a loose or corroded connection inside your distributor (ICM & Coil) or between your distributor and the ECU. Check all of your wires for proper connection and ensure that they are clean. Once you have checked your dist. and ECU wires for proper connection and clean contacts and they check out OK. You are going to need a multimeter to start checking the ignition coil & Ignition Control Module (ICM).
