i'm trying to do a tune-up on my 98 civic ex (d16)
i already got the parts...rotor, distributor cap, plugs, and wires...
problem is...i'm a big newb at this...and not sure of what to do...

First off, the only parts you really need are the rotor and the plugs. And I really hope all the parts are genuine Honda. The plug wires are usually good for at least 200k, and the cap is good for 142k or so, so might as well return those.
My only other beef is, if you are asking to do a "tuneup" on your car, you obviously are not following the recommended maintenance. Look in the owners manual and see what needs to be done when.
And yes, I do know how to make a car last, I have 4 Hondas over 300k and still running perfectly.
