Default Is my tach safe?

Ok, i finally installed my tach tonight and as i was testing it on the road, my engine sounded like it was absolutely gonna blow through my hood when the tach read 4-5000 RPM on both 2nd and 3rd gears. My 93 Civic DX should have a redline of around 7000 RPM but it sounds so bad at 5000 RPM

Is that good or bad? Or maybe my tach is off ??

You should be fine it has absolutely nothing to do with your tach.

also the aftermarket tachs aren't very accurate so keep that in mind also good luck.

Actually, if hooked up correctly an aftermarket tach will be more accurate then a factory tach.

If you think it is messed up try this....just take first gear up to fuel cut...on the DX it should cut your engine out at about 7000.....now, if your engine cuts out, and the aftermarket tach reads 5000rpms, you have a problem.

Good luck.

Here is another thing to look at!!!!!

There is usually a switch on most tach's in the back Make sure you have it set to 4 not 6 or 8!!!!!! In case you didn't know the numbers mean cylinders.

I got 2nd gear up to 6000 RPM at around 55 mph so maybe its fine.

I'm a bit shaky about getting to the gas cut-off point considering the engine's got 195k on it

When i had my 2nd gear going in the 6000's, i was hearing a high-pitched rattling sound from under the hood (??)

How long have you had the CAI? I felt the same way when I first got my Intake.

I had my tach installed before my CAI was. I got the CAI finally installed tonight. Now it just sounds beefy
