Is my Differential shot?? Help!
Hey.... right now im havin a big problem.... I recently replaced the gears in my tranny, and just the other night i was goin up a street quick in 1st and shifted to 2nd and got some really big wheel hop. And after that.. there was this grinding noise... its not constant its in bursts, And they get closer together as i ACCELERATE or pick up speed, you can hear it in neutral but it just sounds like something bouncing around, its only when its in gear or im accelerating.... im thinking it might be the Differential which i really hope it isnt.... considering i just paid a decent amount to have the tranny almost totally rebuilt... is there anythign else it could be ? if so what can i do to check ?
open it up and check EVERYTHING. A friend of mine had the same problem, the faster he went the more the noise happened. We took the tranny apart and found the ring gear on the diff was missing some teeth, and that wiped out the countershaft.
yeah my best friend had the same prob. we pulled out his spoon tranny plug and there was a huge chunk of metal stuck to it. his diff was gone, and now hes buildin the ***** out of it. id quit drivin it and take it back apart.
