Default Ls/vtec Build- Oil Pump

There are many threads that suggest buying a vtec oil pump when building a ls/vtec motor. But they also say that after 97 or 98 all oil pumps are the same. Both Ls and Gsr oil pumps are product number 9023I have a 98 ls oil pump with around 60k on it. Would it make a difference if i buy one or should i just replace the pressure relief spring with a vtec spring??

Just dont wanna spend 100+ if i dont need too.

thanks

if the numbers match, its the same exact part, springs and all... works that way at the honda dealership i work at.

but to be safe, why not spend the 100 bucks to get a ITR oil pump?

I have to agree... if you are building an LS/VTEC or anymotor for that matter you should buy new oil and water pumps. OEM of course. better to be safe then sorry.

Yea...a friend of mine works at a local acura dealership.I asked him for an ITR oil pump awhile back and the part # was the same as LS and GSR.You dont really need to replace the oil pump, mainly the water pump.If the oil pump was in working condition before, than it should be ok.

I agree all the pumps are now the same.

Before I would resued the old pump it would be a good idea to pull it apart and look for wear. and while its apart, get your helms out and check the wear on the gears to see if their still within specification.
