i believe you need a headgasket for the block and not the head

golden eagle was sending the vtec head gasket with there kits when your suposed to use the nonvtec gasket. dont know if they fixed it or not. personally i dont know if it matters cause the only difference is that the vtec gasket has a hole for the stock vtec oil supply and the nonvtec does not.as long as you have it pluged correctly i dont see where it would hurt as long as you put the gasket on the block and all the holes line up

GE does send the vteck headgasket and it's "recommended" to use the LS headgasket.

I have been using the vtec headgaskets on mine since it was built and have no issues at all.

if u dont mind rebuilding i would turbo i since you already have low compression and thats the only way you are going to run good with that ls tranny LOL!!!.just pick up a short block with the rings shot and build it have it ready when the other goes

ive had 3 lsvtec motors and they've all used the nonvtec hg. if you use the vtec one then..
1) there is no hg right under where you plugged the oil feed
2) the hg around the oil drain passeges is different
