looking to educate myself
im not sure if im posting this is the right place (although my options are limited as a trial user) but i'd like to know alot more about cars. im 18 and sick of carpooling to my uni, but i dont know the first thing about cars. ive read some stuff on wikipedia and random tutorials here and there, but i feel like most of the stuff out there is already above my head. im not really asking for someone here to somehow mentor me (thatd be asking a bit much, ey?), but if you guys know any good sites with info for beginners id appreciate it
ive heard hondas hold up a long time and keep their value a long time as well, which is what led me here.
thanks

What is it that you want to know more about? Check out these two sites... lots of great information. Also do a lot of reading on this board and don't be scared to ask questions. Just ignore the stupid people on here who will flame you.

Everyone on here is here to mentor and help you. That is the purpose of this site.

Very good website to understand how and why things on a car work. Great graphics.
Other than that just search and read and read and search. Ask questions.
It is important to note that although a Honda does maintain it's value and doesn't break down at much it is still a car. That is to say it is not an asset like some people think it is, it is a service you are buying. It is the biggest money pit you will ever have in your life. Where I live on average a car cost about $0.44/KM to drive, that's like 75 cents a mile to drive. (This includes gas, maintenace, insurance, depreication....ect) Just be careful what are you getting yourself into.
Cheers and welcome to HT.

solid advice all around, thanks guys
im really liking http://www.howstuffworks.com - its got alot of good info, even outside of cars.
and thats true neri - especially with gas prices right now. ive got enough money saved up from my last job to ride it out at school for awhile.. but if i get a car, it means getting a job again shortly afterwards, for sure. in the end i think it'll make me money though, since my job op's are pretty slim without a car (skate to work?
), and i dont mind working while going to school.
thanks again for the advice :~)

Classic catch 22: I need a car to get to work and I need work to pay for my car....lol
