Jdm swaps illegal in ca?
california sounds like a horrible place to live when you can't even have a jdm motor. lol! If i lived in Cali I wouldn't even drive a car. I would just surf to work.

California people need to rise up and do something. Just how Mormon people got their ban on gay marriage with prop 8 we can get engine swaps back. If you think about it it is truly redicioulouse that it is illegal to even put a B16 into a car that had a D16. We are'nt doing twin turbo LS1 conversions. It is just stupid, as long as you have all ODBII sensors and the rest of the correct emissions devices it should be allowed.

Yes, our laws here are harsh. Some are for our own good, some are just nonsense.
Being that we have some of the most polluted air in the US, it's easy to understand why they enact such laws.
If you keep your car clean and unsuspecting - and don't drive like an idiot - you should be good. If you get popped, then you just have to swap in a stock engine and take care of it.

no it's ridiculous.. in the DC/Maryland/VA area gridlock is as bad as cali if not worse most of the time.. and our air quality blows.. but noone here gives a damn about a swapped motor... so long as it passes an emissions test.
Yes, I completly agree with you, but there should be a legall way to have a same size or slightly bigger engine. So you don't have to worry about getting popped and swaping back an engine.
and you dont even have to take emissions if you are too low to get on the rollers (obd1). i'm currently on a 6 year extension period because i can't get onto the rollers.
That is also a little absurd that having a car too low will let you get a pass on smog, but I just don't think there is anything wrong with a car that originally had a D15 to be running around with a K20 as long as the proper emissions parts are in place.
This is kind of a slightly irrational and not very good point but why is it that mom's can go pick up kids and go to the super market in a lifted hummer with all terrain tires, but I can't cruise around in a 2300 pound car with an engine thats smaller and more efficient then most other cars have anyways.

THAT is why.

technically we were never allowed to have the "JDM motors" in our cars...they have always needed to be "upgraded" to US spec. Meaning the motor had to be offered in america at one point, it had to be from the year of your car or newer, and it had to have all the american smog equipment installed and hooked up correctly...can somebody show me what the new law states?
california is in a budget crisis they will ticket u for anything... ask questions later. we bend ourselves over backwards just to drive a modded car.
stop driving a civic/integra - cops just automatically harass you no matter what you're doing, that's been my experience. At a stop light, getting pulled over *yay for police, hella do their job protecting and serving*
here is some definitive information: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm
AFAIK - nothing has changed to BAR your motor other than it can't from from an SUV (i.e. CRV) and if it's a JDM motor, needs a US counter part (i.e. JDM B18C-r = B18c5, but if you have b16b, no legal counter part in US = motor not BAR'able unless you change out of a few key components that deal with smog/emissions test; which you still have to do with a JDM B18c (gsr or type r)
