Default Intake Ports and getting the carbon out..

My engine has a alot of carbon build up in the intake runners. Can I sand off all the black stuff and not worry about it fallin into the cylinders? If it does will it damage my pistions? I wouldnt think that it would, but my dad thinks otherwise.By no means is this going to be a heavy p&p just somethin to clean up the runners,

tia

Gumout makes a product for exactly what your looking for...

It is a spray they eats away carbon build-up then burns in cylinders, not harmful at all. Only creates a low idle during spray and black smoke from exhaust. As for head carbon buildup, ATF will burn it away, safe, many people do it, I've done it to many cars...

Let me ask you a question why do you think you have carbon in you intake ports... is it alot of carbon or just a small amount. i would use brake cleaner and a scotch brite pad.

Take your head off and go from there. Then you don't need to worry about **** falling into the cylinders.

You can also clean the tops of your pistons...

Oh man I really think you should discontinue using ZMAX products. Heres why, http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.htm People have been stating that their products are merely dyed mineral oil.

SeaFoam injects through a vacuum line and cleans out all excess carbon in your intake chambers and cylinders. Works really well. You can put it in your oil and your gas too. Just make sure you change your oil soon after. It has a tendency to thin out your oil. You car will smoke for about 20 minutes too, the smoke is all the carbon and crap burning, so don't worry.

lol don't worry about it. I seriously doubt that one time would matter. One fuel additive I have used is BG44K. You can see their other products here http://www.bgprod.com/autofuel.html As for the lucas stuff I haven't heard anything bad about it. Hope that helps man. Lates!

Ive heard of people ruining their catalytic converters from all the carbon after it goes thru the exhaust. Might want to keep that in mind.
