Default Air boost valve starting air valve

The reason i need to know what these are is because one of them is probably bad on my car. The one on the right for instance might be bad because when i start my car it idles at like 2500 and when i crimp the vacume hose going to it it drops. So i capped it off and now my freekin car idles at about 700 but when i push the gas it will die or the rpms will drop. Im not 100% sure if the one on the left is broken or not but it would be nice just to replace it along with the other.

The dashpot on the left is apparently not needed. I don't have one on my B16a 1st gen. It runs and idle fine without.

L: Throttle valve dashpot control diaphram (emplyoed to slow the closing of the throttle valve when it is suddenly closed during gear shifting or deceleration.)

R: Possibly a Starting air valve (when cranking the engine, the starting air valve supplies additional air to the intake manifold to ease engine starting.)

then if the one on the right was broken would that explain why my car was idleing around 2500 when i started it, and now that the vacume hose it off of it now the idle is at about 700 even when i start it cold? And how much do you think the one on the right is? Thanks for your help so far.

At least you have a Helms. That should tell you what those things do.

i looked a little closer but it only mentioned the daspot diaphragm. It didnt really mention what it did just how to test if it worked which i will do when i get my car back from the shop. The cold start valve that was mentioned above has little to no info on here or even on the internet.

Does the car jump idle at all. Like when you first start it up and its at 2500 rpm, does it fall down then jump back up? That one to the left you can go without I almost wounder if its something else.

yeah, it surged a little, it went down a little and back up. I capped off a vacume line going to the other diaphragm on the right and the idle went down alot but it still surges a bit.

It sounds like your fast idle valve. It mounts right under your throttle body. The way to check to see if its bad is to remove you air intake tube and look at the inside of the throttle body. There should be a small hole, put your finger tip over the hole. If you feel any kind of suction or your engine starts to idle correctly then that's your problem. For a first gen b16 you'll need to order one from Acura and say you need one for a 91 LS integra. If you have a salvage yard close to you try them. Most of the Honda fast idle valves are usually the same, the only difference is the two necks. If you can get your hands on one for free just try comparing them and see if the base looks the same. Good luck with it.

yeah, i checked my fitv and it seemed ok, ive adjusted it before and when i took it off this time it looked like it wasnt at the right spot so i adjusted it to where it should be and called it good. Should i just get a brand new one? I heard that once it gets un adjusted it is never the same that it will just keep going back.

i believe my start air valve or whatever it is is broken. I had the vacume line going to it plugged off before and the idle went down. I hooked up my o2 sensors and put the vacume hose back into the valve and it idles high again. But the problem is that i dont know what car it is out of. Honda dealerships dont know crap about engines that come from japan and i dont know what other engine had that valve on it so i could order it. Any suggestions?

Since no one seems to know if it comes in any honda I just got the one from a 1992 Integra LS. It cost about 120, sucky but its worth it. I hooked it back up and drove it and it didnt seem to hesitate much at all. It had pretty good power, I took it off and cleaned it a little and there was a bit of black **** in it. But it still idles around 2g-3g. Just goes back and forth. Also, i noticed a lot of back fireing. Im not sure what thats about. But I hope the air boost valve solves my prob.

The air boost/starting air valve is actually discontinued by acura. The honda version is different than the acura. The honda version has only one vacume line going to it and it put on the right side of the intake manifold i believe.
