When the car is stationary and i move the steering wheel from center to left there is a humming/whining noise and it gets a bit louder as i approach all the way to the left or right.
its only when i turn the steering wheel.
Can somebody help me find out what it is?

 

Power steering pump. Check the fluid level. A slight amount of noise would be considered normal. Not really anything to worry about
