How to tell
How to tell if you buy a used engine from JDM or other source that has low miles on it? They say it comes from Japan. Japan has old cars and they also have a junkyard there. So lets say if you buy an OEM Honda or Toyota engine...Does it really have low miles like they say it does? Or they just give you another engines that has over 200 000 miles on it? There is no way of finding out...Is there?
Japanese cars don't have 200,000 miles. There is some kind of crazy law or regulation in Japan that requires people to replace their motors at about 40,000 miles or something.
I don't really know how it works, but I'm sure you could Google it. But that's why you always see JDM motors with the same low mileage.

I think that's what the people selling the engines want us to think. Funny how all used engines only have 20,000 miles on em.

Mileage aint nothin but a number. Do a compression check and inspect seals, gaskets, belts for any wear. But yeah jdm motors will most likely have low miles on them. Its not like they drive cross country like we do in the states.
I am getting my motor from JDM it's not a JDM motor. It's a Stock Honda Motor that apparently has only 50k miles on it. My car is almost 20 years old now and i have never come across an engine for my car that has that low of miles.
I guess there is no way of finding out.

No seriously. I had a buddy from Japan. He said the people there have to pay some kind of outrageous tax once their car hits a certain mileage.
So instead of paying the tax, most people just buy new cars. Since the old "high" mileage ones are worthless, they get recycled, but the motors are sold to the US because people here are willing to buy them for what an entire car costs over in Japan.
