all feedback is welcome, unless it involves "take it to a machine shop".
this is a spare b20 block i had, just trying to hone my honing skills lol.
i used a 320 grit flex hone on my dewalt drill. drill rpm was 500.
i soaked the hone in atf and wiped down the cyl walls too. then with the drill set on foward i went up and down in the cyl about once per second for 15 seconds. i then re soaked the hone in atf and put the drill in reverse and repeated the process, about 15 times up and down in 15 seconds. the hone was full rotating upon entry and exit of the cylinder.
heres a bunch of pics, some are better to see than others.

what's turning out right? what can i be doing differently? this block had some scoring so would need to go .020 over anyway, but the next time i try it ill be using that block at that bore

the hone is a 3 1/2 inch which was sold as working in bores from 82 mm to 89mm. this is currently at 84.5mm. i wonder if its a grit thing also to make it look "deep"
That's not a good hone. The angle of the cross hatch is wrong. You have to move up and down pretty fast. You might also want to go with something a little finer.
Top pic is what yours looks like, bottom pic is more like what it should look like.

well the faster you go the steeper the angle, so id think if i go faster up and down my angle would decrease from 45 to around 30 degrees....
how much finer on the grit do you guys think? 400 grit? this is for deglazing purposes primarily..
