How Do You Guys Mount Your Blocks to Engine Stands?
I was going to use the tranny bolts to put my spare block on my stand, but they're not even long enough to clear the brackets on the stand. I went to Home Depot, and the closest thing I could find was a 12mm X 1.75 thread, but that was too coarse. Then I was looking at the SAE fine thread stuff, and that looks like it'd match up alright, but they didn't have any in 1/2", which would be the closest thing to 12mm.
Also, are flywheel bolts 14mm 12pt? I assumed they were, since the clutch bolts are 12mm 12pt, and my Helm's says the flywheel bolts are 2mm wider in diameter.

hmmm i went to a place by my house called tacoma screw and gave em the bolts i use for the tranny, and asked if they had em about 2inches longer. duno if theres a tacoma screw in cali though
Huh. When I usued my MVP engine stand, the tranny bolts all worked, then I used one of those worthless SAE sockets to space the long tranny bolt off so I can still torque it down. Sorta like a really big washer.
I don't know what kind of stand I have, but it looks like this:
Except the long part of the brackets that bolts to the stand is slotted so it can slide in and out. My tranny bolts arn't long enough to clear those short parts that match up to the block.

Yup. I have one just like it.
I had to cut about 1 inch off of each of the mounting "fingers", the parts the bolts go through, to make it work. Didn't feel like buying bolts, and wanted to get it on the stand. Worked great.

A grinder would probably be your best bet. But, your dremel will work with some cut-off wheels - it'll just take a lot longer. From the looks of it, you could probably even use a recipricating saw, (sawz-all).

I used the front lower shock fork bolts and threaded those into the two top holes on the tranny side.
We went to the hardware store to pick up some grade 8 bolts and washers to stick through the non-threaded bolt holes towards the bottom of the block and locked them down with nuts on the other side of the block.

Go buy a piece of threaded rod from the hardware store, get 8 nuts and washers that fit it, cut 4 pieces to the lengths you need and go through the open holes in the side of the block and mount away.

flywheel bolts are 17mm btw
Oops I forgot that was for the 2 bottom holes on my stand , i had to use 2 tranny bolts for the top ones.
That was also for a b series, sorry
on me.
oh well heres a pic , see the threaded rod on the bottom holes.

How did you drop the motor into the engine bay with the header and intake manifold on there?
sorry for the double post
on me again.
i used the motor mount bolts, they are about 4-4.5 inches long

i put my motors in fully assembled, from exhaust mani to intake mani

I wouldnt want to damage mine during the install either.
Hows the b20 running?
i guess if the header was that big then it would be a pain in the butt. i did install a b18c1 with a dc 1 pc. header aleady on into an 4g hb.
the motor is great so far. 1800 miles and kickin'. it has a lil more torque than the ole stock a6.
i am finishing up collecting the parts for my 100shot nitrous system...should be in next week. that is going to be fun.

Jeff .....!00 shot
OMG that will be fun...
It's a fully adjustable b20 smsp header. 2 3/4 collector.

Damn, I figured that Dave's **** would be of good quality, but that thing is pristine! The collector's got me stumped though - why so small?
