Default FOR GUYS RUNNING 450-600WHP

guys, what amount of boost are you guys running in order to get your high horsepower? im asking this because i'm running 27psi and getting only 450-460whp.

my setup turbo is T4 GT40 ls/vtec. i'm thinking it might be my wastegate that is opening too soon, my power goes sky high but right at 7000rpm it is like a dead solid powerband line all the way to 9k rpm. but if I running shut close wg and let off at 8000rpm the power just wants more and more. what do you guys think? need a stiffer spring in my wg? my setup is good for 1000hp but right now i'm running single pump and still limited

my old setup did 26psi 478whp on a true 70trim turbo, this one is much bigger I should be way past that powerband I think.

Mustang dyno?
What does your tuner think?
What is the norm for that turbo and pump gas? 478 whp is daaaam respectable on pump gas if you ask me...

dynojet, he thinks thats too much boost to be making that much power and for me to ask is that what the boost every honda guys runs?

that means to get 500whp you have to be doing 30psi or more?

If that is a Garrett GT40, you may want to look over a few things, as it shouldn't take anywhere near that much boost to make that power..

yes garrett gt40, not ebay stuff. UPDATE: redynoed today made 501whp @ 31psi 116octank. my guy said that's wayyyyyyy too much boost for that hp. is he right? or is this the kind of boost most honda guys run? like I said, after 7000rpm the power drops off big time, it's not even like up up up kinda smooth then drop. No, it's like up up up then big drop, like an arrow ^, just like that.....

my motor is 9.0 compression. good 155across all cyl. I did spike 560whp at 37psi I want to stay in the low 500whp with under 28psi, but it doesnt looke like its gonna happen. btw, my tuning timing is at 18-19wot

I NEED TO HIT 9'S....HAHAH

Your guy is probably right, that is too much boost for that power level, and the power should not be dropping off at 7000rpm.. What exhaust housing is on this turbo? What is your ambient air temp, what exact fuel are you using, is the timing synch'd between the ecu and the distributor? What EMS are you using? Do you have boost plots? You mentioned it was on a dynojet, are the tires spinning? These questions could go on forever.. Is this a GT4094, 4088? Test for boost leaks?

okkk update: we made progress....BUT the motor is no good, coolint pressure is building soo fast by just reving the engine. I think ether the hg is leaking or the head or the block is crack. we will open it tonight and find out. SUCKS

You're on S3? Do you mean Hondata S300? If so, you could post some screen shots of the high cam timing maps..

Or, you can email the calibration file to sales@locashracing.com and I can post the shots for you and look over your tune..

UPDATE: 2:50AM SAT. Yes 2:50am sat, head is pulled off due to building too much radiator pressure wayyy too fast, found nothing wrong, no crack block sleeve head, nothing. so i'm guess the stocky head gasket just leaked, I mean it holds radaitor pressure for some time 10 mins or so after you shut off the engine, but under full load 25psi plus, it spit a load of antifrezz to the overflow, LIKE ALOT.....so tomorrow i'm just gonna install another stocky hg onto it and hope this one does work. anything I need to know let me know guys before this gets put togeter. hope I get all this tune in and dyno so I can run tomorrow, i mean tonight

BTW THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP LOCASH

How old are your headstuds/how many uses? Pushing coolant means your head was probally lifting. What are you tq'ing your head down too?

Well, I've found a handful of problems.. I'll post the screenshots, but I have a few questions.. What map sensor are you running? Do you have a datalog? If the map you sent me is the one from the ecu, you're probably lucky if you havent really hurt the motor..

My personal opinion...that's a WHOLE lot of boost for some rather crummy numbers. I'm making 430 on just 10lbs, That just goes to show that high psi doesn't always = Incredible HP/Torque numbers..

Who's doing your tuning and what internals are you running?

His issue is that he doesnt need to be running that much boost to make the desired power, there are other problems causing that.. But since you mentioned it, it is really rare to see 400+hp on 10 psi of boost, so you may want to check your boost gauge.

Thanks, what did I do wrong?

But, to the OP, your calibration is set up for a stock map sensor, and 20 psi boost cut, hence the reason I asked for a datalog, because something doesnt make sense..

You forgot "http://" in front of the "www." The [img] codes still work on this software.

Also, i agree with locash. If that is the calibration that is on your ecu, it is way off in alot of ways. I'd look into a new tuner if i were you.

So boostcut was set at 20 LB and you somehow hit 30-37Lbs?? boostcut should pretty much put your head thru the windshield lol ... and stock map sensor wont read anything past 14 psi...

thanks for taking the time to help this guy, locash. its people like you that go out of your way to help the little guy that really means alot

hello guys, UPDATE: on sat morning, after I got the head on back with a new stock hg. everything was perfect, no more high pressure coolint and no more rough idle, it was all good, so back onto the dyno, made a few more pulls, this time at 26psi I made 460whp, still sounds too low imo, but it's better, still power falling off, but this time at 8000rpm. so again we played with the turning, after 15pulls we got the tune very good (af's btw, high 11's), I decided to do a 3rd gear pull and onto 4th to see if the af are good. So there I did, 3rd gear to redline, 4th to redline, as I got 8200rpm my over flow started to have MAJOR coolint pressure again and I shot a little smoke out the exhaust (****) so yes again i'm having headgasket leaks.....AGAIN,

I need to know now, what are you high hp guys tqing ur head studs to? i'm doing 65lbs. OMG B16, what are you tqing your headstuds to?

sorry I forgot to tell you guys, i'm on stock map sensor. I think as long as I keep my timing in place, I should be good.

last, I want to thank all you guys for shining into this thread and helping me with all your info and time. thanks again. i'll be back after I fix the headgasket with a cosmectic and some new headstuds later this week. untill then if you have anything I might need to know, please post.

oh one more thing, 10psi making over 400 is really something I can't see happening. unless you have high compression and have a v8
