Default Grease in radiator?

I searched but couldn't find anything particularly helpful. I took off my radiator cap yesterday and the seal inside was covered in creamy white stuff.. looked like grease. I think I remember something similar in the coolant when I drained the rad but at the time I just assumed it was from the dirty bucket I used.

What could this be... it doesn't look like engine oil but I haven't ruled out a blown headgasket. btw, this is on a stock b18a integra.

I've heard from Mitsu guys that it's either grease from new parts that are sometimes lubed (ie: water pump, seals, etc.), or it's from sedimentation caused by using any water wetter type of product.

I've never used water wetter or anything, but I could see if being some sort of sediment. I guess if there was a lot of oil in my coolant it would float and be fairly obvious and the top of the rad.

Have you noticed any smoking or anything?? Try a compression test, but you should know before you have to do that if your headgasket is blown or not

No excessive smoking, and the compression test I did was fine.. but that was 18 months ago.

my experance has been that it is a blown head gasket or cracked head to cause this ... do a compression test or a leakdown and that should give you the answer

I'll have to check again when I have more time but this sounds like it may describe my problem. If I do replace the head gasket, do I need to mill the head and or the block?

i would take the head to be resurfaced and checked for cracks like i have said the only time i have seen oil in a radiator in a honda car is when the head has been cracked

good luck
