Default Ghetto Modding: ITB Idea, Input please...

Ok, now PLEASE keep in mind... I didn't research much on this... just dreamt it up somewhere between breakfast and Honda Tech.... easy on the flames....

I don't know if anyone has already thought of or tried this... but concerning ITB's...

If you were to take a stock integra GSR intake manifold, which has a secondary runner with butterfly plates (vacuum operated). Given a little fabrication, would it be possible to take that half of the manifold and use it as a starting point for ITB's instead of spending all the money on pre-fabb'd units ?

The only reason I mention it is that looking at the manifold design, it appears that you MIGHT be able to use the secondary butterflies as throttle plates... although I don't know how well they seal as compared to a throttle body.

I plan to inspect the possiblities closer when I pick up a spare I/M this weekend.

Am I onto something or am I having a slow moment ?

X2

I think you were having a slow moment. Not only would you have to remove the primaries completely (lots of cutting), you'd have to seal off the holes that they'd leave (lots of welding). Not to mention stock GSR secondaries are indeed rather small (I'm unsure as to an exact size, but still rather small) in comparison to a quality aftermarket ITB setup, or even most DIY setups.

I left out the part about sealing the primaries.... I can get it done free... but you say even the secondaries are small.... gotcha... just thinking out loud.

wouldnt it be crazy to have the primaries connected to the plenium and the secondaries to some sort of ITB. So you get the low and mids of a IM and the high end of the itb's....probly just nub thoughts though....anyone with actual knowledge care to comment on my thoughts?

i have posted about this a few times and here are my thoughts. Number one you will have to cut off the primaries and leave only the secondary plate. 2 you will need to cut off the runners where the curve is and weld the secondary plate on there to keep the flow straight. 3 have someone reblade the butterflies. 4 find a way of mounting the throttle position sensor and map sensors to the system. I need to get me a spare manifold and continue this process. I was thinking of using a plenum with a 4 inch intake and no throttle body at the inlet just the butterflys in the manifold. Let me know how it goes. Or post this on the endyn board http://www.theoldone.com

if you cant get the secondaries bored out enough you could make them somewhat square which would increase the area without running the bores together.
