fuel tank pressure sensor question.. anybody?!?
97 civic with a 97 gsr. need to legalize the motor. originally was installed with jdm ecu. when us ecu was installed for smog purposes, cel came on. pulled out codes P0450 and P0453. has to do with evap system malfunction and high voltage in the fuel tank pressure sensor. car model is civic sedan lx and not sure if a fuel tank pressure sensor even is installed in this particular model. need to know if someone in socal preferably in san diego has encountered this problem and if they can refer a place to get it repaired.
had the same problem, but my motor is stock, I have a 96 GSR, put in a US 98 type R ecu in there, after 1 day the CEL came on. I was like WTF, so my dad told me to take it to the dealer see what was going on, the idiot that I am, I listened to him, wasted, 100 at the dealer for nothing, Tech said, 96(possibly 97) GSRs don't have that Fuel tank pressure sensor that the computer is complaining about, which is a 98, told me to stick with the correct years.
Recently I aquired a JDM 98spec ECU and apparently it doesn't check for the Fuel Tank pressure sensor, I have not had any CEL on for almost 1 year now
So if you had the same problem as me, the solution is to:
1) get a 96 GSR ecu, you can tell, the last digits are A01 98 is A03 (not sure what 97 is)
2) get a obd2 to obd1 harness and run either a 94-95 GSR ecu or a PR3 civic one.
3) get a JDM ecu
4) get a aftermarket programmable ECU
5) find some way to put in the sensor that is is looking for (IMHO is a waste of time!)
Hope that solves your problem.
