i'm trying to find it at a local store so i can use it tomorrow...
i've previously used it on my 99 civic and my friend's 97 accord to do his driver axle.. it fits in the Lower Ball Joint, Tie Rod, And Upper Control Arm perfectly and it makes popcorn
for those who have used it you know what i'm talking about! It doesn't damage the boot or mess up the threads on the ball joint. this tool IS PERFECTT!!
i wanted to share this with everyone cuz i'm tired of hammering on things till it's loose. i'm a pretty skinny guy and waving a hammer around isn't my strong point

Ive never had a problem with just hitting the spindle and popping the shaft out. to each their own I guess. BTW, you would be really surprised at the difference between a good quality wood handled mini sledge and an el-cheapo HF plastic handled mini sledge.

hmm, maybe i was hitting in the wrong spots with a hammer? who knows.. also, i'm a late night worker so my neighbors and momma wouldn't like me banging metal with a hammer. lol
Why do you need a tool if you take off the tie rod rod and strut bolts, you should be able to move the whole hub out of the way and pull the axle out, and if u dont wanna mess the threads up put the nut back on top and hit it with a hammer
a 3 dollar hammer has always worked for me....if youre worried about damaging threads on the ball joint, leave the castle nut (but loose), so if you mis-swing, you hit the nut and not the threads. i can see this tool being handy for big trucks or domestics, but the sport compacts always come loose with a couple of good hits.

somehow most of the cars i've worked on are a big pain, the ball joint or tie-rod sticks real bad and it's pretty much mated to the hub..
it's just a good tool to have if you aren't into bangin things with a hammer or trying to work in the quiet (night time with sleeping neighbors or moms)

Hammering on newer stamped steel LCAs sometimes dislodges the ball joint and distorts the housing. Maybe a ball joint separator is not always necessary but to avoid costly mistakes or compromised integrity it sure is nice. I use both methods and have great success. Everyone has their own methods and as long as it works for them then great.

Yep, 5lb mini sledge.
I have also noticed the ball joint will come free on the first or second hit on the race car. It's just that you don't think it does because there is so much weight pushing down it looks like it still in.
After you hit it check it to see if it did come loose before the next hit. Luckily I haven't had to do a real car in a while.
