Default a/f meter and two o2 sensors...

now, the rsx, as well as all obd-ii tegs have two o2 sensors. i know that the rsx calls the first an 'a/f sensor', and the 2nd the o2 sensor. (my teg didnt have two, so im not familiar with this term)

what is the first one? the manual doesnt show voltages for the 1st one... and im trying to understand why you would hook an a/f meter to the 2nd one. im guessing its the 2nd one b/c it has the same voltage range as the obd-i tegs..

can anyone explain?
1. what both are used for
2. which is the proper one to hook up to, and why

thx

Both are used to allow your engine to better monitor what it is using/creating (emissions) and to slow the engine down!!! Fricken SMOG RULES SUCK......

neway, I cannot really answer your question just wanted to bitch, I apologize for not contributing positively to your tread.

2 O2's are used for emmisions reasons, as Spade said above. The first O2 is what monitors the exhaust and provides feedback to the ECU about the a/f mix. The 2nd O2 is used to monitor Catalytic Converter operation.

cool. thats answer #1, thx.

anyone with #2?

so, the 2nd sensor has no bearing on perf - sounds like it will only throw a code if cat is bad.
what do you do with a test pipe and two sensors then?

goes to the first 02. basiclly becasue its not hot enough at the secondary o2. the a/f ratio gadges sense heat and turn it into a voltage signal to the led's and it wont have enogh heat to do that after the cat.

You can get a test pipe with bungs for your o2's. The sweet ones have cat material in the bungs so you dont throw codes

"the a/f ratio gadges sense heat and turn it into a voltage signal"

the sensors actually sense oxygen content of exhaust gases and turn it into a voltage signal of between 0.01v to 0.99v,

but only have a specific operating temperature of above 600'c...

hth,
