What I did is this:

I took the head off first & removed axles

1.) Disconnect all hoses and electrical connections. and all motor mounts except for the left and right main motor mounts
2.) make a little engine dolley to go under the motor (i used a furniture dolley with a few extra 2x4s for support)
3.) remove jack stands and lower the car/engine onto the dolley just until your see the motor mounts relieve pressure
4.) remove the motor mounts. & make sure the motor doesn't topple over
5.) lift the car up using jack. you many need to put a 4x4x4 piece of wood on the jack to lift it high enough to clear the motor from the engine bay
6.) Pulll the engine out (make sure it doesn't topple)
7.) Put car back on jack stands.
