Default driver door

99 civic ex coupe

my driver door leaks (not window) when it rains. i thought it was the weather stripping but it looks in good condition, then i noticed that the driver door, i can stick my finger inbetween the door and car and the passenger i cannot. looks like the driver door needs to shut a lil more. i looked at the latch and U hook if thats what its called, what ever the latch latches and there are philip screws, i loosen them and it looks like thats it, theres a set point no adjustment.

can someone correct me, can this be adjusted, i just want it to close another couple millimeters. thanks ahead of time

"Adjust" the striker (u hook as you called it) with a hammer, hit it toward the car. You just need to bend it in a little bit.

If you need to move the rear of the door inward a whole finger length, the strike plate can be drilled to move the mounting position. It's best to secure the plate and use a drill press so you can drill partially overtop of the original hole if you need to without the bit being thrown out of position.

ok, im going to start with replacing the weather stripping because it does not look bent. but some of the weather stripping has some sort of caulk in it. maybe its keeping it from shutting all the way

anyone know where to get weather stripping from. my boy at honda said he can get it at his cost for $125. thats hella expensive for what it is

You can use a long straightedge and a ruler to see if it is bent. Open both doors and hold the metal vertically against the interior of each door and measure the distance from the top and bottom edges of the door to the straightedge. On some doors, the top edge will touch the metal and you only have to measure the bottom. Use the measurement of the passenger door as your reference.

I'd compare prices against what www.hondaautomotiveparts.com has listed.

I am aware you have a bigger gap in the drivers door than the passenger which may be leading to your leak, and I don't know how the 6th gen civic drains are routed but make sure your sunroof drain on the drivers side is connected to the nipple on the sunroof.

I had my passenger side drain hose come loose from the sunroof on my EG back last year and it would dump water in on the seat and passenger if someone was with me when it rained.

Just something to check.

i just replaced the weather stripping. i ordered for a coupe and the part came in for a sedan, and i already ripped off the old one so i just modified it to make it work. no more wind noise so i dont think rain will come in either. great success!
