d16y7 I.M. help plz!
Sorry about the newb question, but im a newb, so i cant help it.
(and i tried a search, but i never have any luck, i dont think im doin right, but anyhoo..)
Im running a d16y7 in my 98 coupe with a short ram air intake, but i want to upgrade my intake mani. If i buy a Skunk2 I.M for my engine, will it give me a noticeable power gain? And will it relocate my T.B? or keep it in the existing upright position!
Thanx for any help!!

yes you will most definately notice a gain, and yes it will relocate your TB to the "EX" d16y8 version... im not certainly postive, but I think you might want to look into the mini-me "how-to" for the d-series before you do that, because I know when u change to the vtec head.. you have to do something different with the intake manifold, and I believe the skunk2 is for the EX model.
And don't forget you will need a new short ram/CAI intake as well, to adjust to the different bends...

hmm this is interesting...
if you wind up getting the skunk2 IM for your Y7, let us know if your Y7 TB bolts up to the manifold. Btw, the Skunk2 IM will bolt right up to your Y7 head; it has the same flange/bolt pattern.
The downside I see in running a Skunk2 IM is the backside of the manifold. It will have holes for an IAC. And since the IACV on a Y7 is integrated into the Y7 TB, this may pose as a slight problem. What you might have to do, is find an IACV from a 92-95 SOHC engine or any B-series engine, and use it as a dummy sensor, to seal the holes up on the backside of the IM...you won't actually use it though.
keep us posted on what you do though..please

ok...
The y7 tb with its integrated 3 wire IACV will bolt on to your skunk IM, however you will need to due some finagling with the throttle cable to get it routed, supported, etc im not too sure of how equipped the skunk mani comes in terms of throttle cable supports etc... anyway, as mentioned by my man, your best bet is to get a 92-00 2 wire IACV and bolt it in place to close up the holes on the back of the skunk IM...
If you plan on upgrading your TB to a unit w/o the 3 wire IACV, you will need obviously a 2 wire IACV, and an ecu to control it, so i recommend a obd1 jumper harness, do the iacv wire swap in your cabin harness plugs that katman has so graciously noted in the past, and get the appropriate obd1 d15 ecu.
