Default D15B7 powered civic dx hatchback won't start

My 92 DX hatchback turns over but doesn't fire. It seems to just freely turn over without any ignition occuring. Also this happens only sometimes, other days it starts fine. I am wondering if the ignitor in the distributor could be faulty. Would a distributor from a D16Z6 work in my application as i have one laying around. Or can i just remove the ignitor from the D16Z6 distributor and use it in the D15B7 one. Not sure if the guts of the two models distributors are the same?

i think there's a service bulletin out on that problem for 92 civics, my car has the same problem, sometimes for no reason i'll go to start it and it just won't start and it'll smell like gas, I have to wait a while and then it'll start normally, something about the fuel pump leaking, but check that and spark, i dont think dizzys from SOHC VTEC engines will fit non-VTEC engines

I have now compared the two types of distributors and the casing is different but the internals are the same. I will check tomorrow on that service bulletin you mentioned. Worth a shot. Thanks. Any one elses suggestions are welcome.

Honda has no service bulletin listed for the 92 DX. I swaped the coil from the d16's dist. into the d15, and there is no change. Upon further inspection i seem to be getting a strong spark and i can hear the fuel pump prime when the key is turned. Any suggestions?

id check your main relay and your filter too, or to see if the gas is even getting to the fuel rail
