Default CVT Info

Can someone explain to me how a "Continuously variable transmission" works.. and what'd it be like driving one.. ?? I'm kind of baffled by this.. its like its got "infinite gears"???? Please explain, thanks

It doesn't have infinite gears, but the computer controls how the car shifts. What this means is that if you're driving down the road you will never feel the car shift, even if you have the pedal to the floor. The CVT is a good transmission, but its not capable of handling much more horsepower than the car is rated at stock.

When you go WOT in a CVT car, does the RPM stay at the peak HP like a snowmobile does, according to that article? Or does it keep accelerating like it's in top gear, like in the Maxima commercial?
