Default Crankshaft sensor and aem ems

have a b18a retrofitted with a crankshaft fluctuation sensor on the crankshaft pulley. OBD2 harness and a aem 1020 ems. Explain how the crank sensor works. Square wave signal that pulses to ground or 12V? The sensor has two wires and I cannot find a matching plug in the harness so what pins on the ems do I need to wire to the two wires on the sensor?

ANy Help?

That would be a crank fluxuation sensor wouldn't it? The crank angle sensor is in the distributor, right?

you should get your hands on an o-scope. Itll show you the wave. I dont think its has a 12v nor a ground. It will have polarity though and youll have to know that, you can find out with a volt meter set to ac votls. hook it up to the sensor and turn the engine in the normal direction and it should tell you. One of the magnets may be in the pulley backwards (in polarity) from the other three, thats so it has a home signal.

I though EMS used factory sensors, am I wrong or are you doing something different.

The sensor you mention at the crankshaft on the OBD2(96+) vehicle is know as the crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor. This sensor is a magnetic type, so a signal and 0 volt for wiring. Its trigger edge is falling, and as for the ref wheel it produce 12 pulses in a engine rev, so the ref tooth is space 30 degrees apart which is the same pattern as the 24tooth ref sensor on the common use B series honda distributor. You should be able to use this sensor as ref signal input to the AEM ECU without changing its ref and sync mode.

Where did you read that hes using the stock flucuation sensor, its not retrofitted to the pulley its under it on the crank. Think aftermarket engine management here.

Guys thanks for the info but this is an obd1 motor converted to obd2 just so Ican use the crank sensor. It has a new oil pump with the sensor installed on it. The sensor plug matches no other plug in the harness. Do you guys know what pins on the ecu is the correct connection for this sensor. If I have the pin out I can locate the plug under the hood and make the connection.
