Default clutch pedal and rod help.. how does that rod work???

I just replace the whole clutch pedal with the bracket.
after I install the new one. the is a rod with treads on the end from the fire wall that screw in to a metal clip with treads inside from the pedal assembly..

I could only get the rod to go half way into that clip. is the rod suppose to turn. I can't really turn it by hand. the nut that goes inbetween is already a bit loose but I still can't turn it into the metal clip. when I took it out. the rod was almost all the way into the metal clip but now is just half way treaded in..

can some one explain to me how that rod works and how to turn it??

the only thing the nut on the rod is for is to eliminate some of the play in the clutch pedal, just tighten/loosen the nut until it meets your preference. The plunger part of the master cylinder is attached to the rod so it really shouldn't be able to be turned easily.

what is the differnce in changing the length of the push rod from the clustch mc to the pedal.. I figur out I could turn the rod in or out after I loosen the nut.
making the rod in to the pedal more making the rod shorter. what does that do? and what does letting the rod out longer loosing in the pedal metal clip do???

if you wind out the rod the whole way and press the clutch, you will have a good bit of play before you actually start to disengage the clutch. When you extend the rod, this eliminates the travel of the pedal before it affects the clutch
