Default clutch gone or syncro in tranny?

I was driving down the highway yesterday and my car just stopped moving. I was in traffic and I went to go and my car wouldnt move it would just rev up as if it was in neutral and I had to like force it into gear....it didnt want to go into any gear. I got out and opened the hood and smelt the clutch burning........do you think my clutch went up or the whole tranny.????

If you smelt clutch then its most likely the clutch. The springs could have gotten loose in the housing and the clutch is not disengaging.
