i just swapped a JDM h22a into my 4th gen and have been having a slight problem. first we took it out for a short drive and there were some loud clapping noises (like valves). we brought it back in and did a valve adjustment, which it needed! the head quieted down a lot but there is one noise that is baffling us right now. at slight throttle or if we blip the throttle, we hear a clap noise as if it needed a valve lash job...at idle and at a very small acceleration it is fine.

what do i check?

sounds like piston slap.You probably got a bad motor.......or did you rev it up high right away when you started it?
