Cold engines feel like they have more power because they do. The air inside the combustion chamber and intake is cooler than when the engine gets up to regular operating temp. That's the whole idea behind cold air intakes. Underhood temps are terrible for performance.

well first of all..never drive "peply" when you first start off your car like that. you haven't give the oils a chance to circulate yet...bad. warm up your car at least until your idle drops to +/- 1350 rpms.
about the the peppines....yes. i assume that in the beginning after start up, the idle is high, the car is already revving high, therefore you may think ur goin a lil faster. if your drivin stick, you can let out the clutch in first with no gas and the car still moves without stalling. but this is nothing big bc ur car drives in normal state is when it's warmed up, so dont be dissapointed.

thanks dudes, usually i wait about a minute and a half before i go. i heard anything above 2 minutes and ur wasting gas [??]. i still dont know why my thottle response pales in comparison to my friend's 1.5. my 1.6 is supposed to be "more torquie". i really feel like something is the matter with my motor. i rotated the distributor a few months ago. could that be it? is there a way to get the optimum setting? it starts to feel like its pulling above about 2500 RPM. its a VTEClike sensation [for lack of a better word]. i mean i can actually feel a non linear acceleration. i run 87 octane cuz it read a DX isnt a hi-comp motor and therefore doesnt need premium fuel. the engine does NOT knock. i still dont know why my friends car faster. his motor is a stock 94 DX with more miles than mines. help me find throttle response!! thanks all

Ok then you need a timing light and adjust your timing back to the factory specs. Just in case you fucked it up. Second you might want to tighten up the slack on your throttle cable. Not too tight or your idle will go up. As far as past 2 mins and you're wasting .
