Default changing rod ratio

ok here is the deal i have a B18C1 bare block that im going to get resleeved. i will be going with the benson 87mm sleeves, but i want to change the rod ratio to as close to 1.75 as possible (perfectly square)and still obtain the same stroke. i know i have to get longer rods, but how long do they have to be, and how much do i have to add to the deck height and sleeve height to obtain this? also does anyone know who can perform this service

i was reading this post https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=367026

and i remember seeing an engine block back in 98 in a mag having it done, but sadly i dont have it anymore

It's up to you really but personally I wouldn't waste my time... We build B18C's all the time for NA and FI purposes and they'll easily go 10Krpm+ if they'd make power that high... If you want the 1.75 rod ratio then do what you've gotta do but it'll take a ~152.6mm rod, combined with a piston running a standard height wristpin... That difference over a stock rod is ~14.8mm which can be made up by a 0.58" deckplate... Seeing as you probably aren't going to find one that is 0.08" above a standard plate you won't be seeing your dead on exact 1.75:1 unless you have one custom made... In your case you would be closer going with the 0.50" deckplate... Just my $0.02, hope this helps

on the same note, if you keep the stroke length, have an higher deck height and longer rod,

would the engine have similar torque cause of the stroke length and get higher rpm since the harmonic at higher rpm will be lowered (less stress cause of the higer R/S ratio) ?

or does the longer rod will only give you less torque but higher rpms??

i'm asking this since I have a similar plan for my h23, I want to keep the stroke of the h23, get custom longer rod, custom piston (with less CH) and if I can higher block height, to get close to 1.58 or 1.6:1 ratio, which is better than the 1.49 from the stock h23

getting longer rods will move peak torque higher in the rpm range, since the longer rod will allow more dwell time of the piston at tdc; thus helping high rpm breathing. It will pull and push the air slower.

just to add: remember that if you add a deck plate you also gonna need a custom timing belt

ok tanx

I know, their's a lot of custom that will go on this engine

btw do you know any place that can do deck plate?? since until now I only searched for longer block, but it's kind of a lot of $$ that would be better spent on other parts (like a better valvetrain).
