Default car shut off while driving

Ok here is the story I was driving the road and the car just shut off, I pull over and try torestart it and it just turns over and I hear a popping through the exhaust will not restart. So i get to the garage the timing is where its supposed to be it gets fuel and spark the battery and alternator is good and all 4 cylinders have compression. So what do you think could be wrong I have a b16a swap in a 88 civic hatch I'm running out of things i think could be wrong. So any help is apreciated thank you.

it gets fuel and spark the battery and alternator is good and all 4 cylinders have compression. .
just a side note, if you are getting the proper fuel and spark and have compression, your car would run. Pick one of the three.

I used to have a D15 in my civic, it would do the same , it turned out to be the throttlebody, after i replaced that then it ran fine.

My dad's distributor in his 1994 Altima gave out on us in the middle of the freeway. The car was cruising at 70mph then with out any warning it just shut off. The car would crank but it would not turn over. We were able to get it towed to the local Nissan dealer and they replaced the distributor and everything was all better.

I know this is HONDA-tech, but I just figured I would share this story to maybe give you another idea as to what it could be. I am not really sure how easy it is to check for a bad distributor, but maybe a friend has a good one that you could hook up and see if the engine works again.

I am really not sure if this kind of thing happens to a Honda engine, but I figured I would leave it up to you to take this story with a grain of salt. Good luck.
