Car refuses to go into gear.....
Finally got my car started, motor is running great.. thanks for everyones help. Well found another BIG problem.. Diagnosis: I can select gears when the car is off. but when the car is running, it just WONT go into any gear.. 1st nothing, 2nd nothing, etc..it just refuses to go into any gear, only Nuetral.. I started the car with 1st gear engaged.. and it moves foward and stalls.. I tried adjusting the clutch cable all the way tight, and all the way loose.. Any ideas?! I need to get my car rolling.. thanks in advance..
The clutch is not disengaging. Sometimes when a car sets a long time without being run the flywheel, and clutch disk will stick together. (Corrosion is usually the problem). It usually will break loose if you attempt to drive the car. Adjust the clutch according to the manual, Get the car headed down the street or driveway, Push it as if you are going to start it but hold the clutch in (disengaged). Should cause the clutch disk to disengage from the flywheel.
this happened to me when i parked my Omni GLH turbo for 1 year outside in a barn. this is how i fixed it:
started car in neutral. got two friends to push the car out of the barn and push as fast as they could (10 mph). "******" the shifter into 2nd gear while rolling; the rpm vs speed was pretty close so it went in with only a light crunch. depress the clutch and slam the gas to the floor. all the torque will go down into the clutch and the only thing holding it to the flywheel was corrosion. after two or three attempts driving up and down my street the clutch popped apart with a really really loud "BANG". it drove perfectly after that.
only risk, i guess, is that the clutch material might rip apart.....
hope that helps.
