first of all i did search for this problem but it was always other peoples themostat.
i replaced the thermo with a a brand new oem one from the dealership and i flushed out all the coolant and added new coolant.
i replaced the gauge cluster with a brand new spoon gauge cluster both gauge clusters read the same.
i got a 01 integra type r, when i start the car in the moring its cold as normal but as im driving to work it only warms up to 1/4 on the gauge, even if i drive a long distance it reads 1\4, please help

na this is my second 01 itr, my first one warmed up perfect..
your rings in the engine can get damaged if your car is running cold, my car is daily drivin never seen a race track, race cars run with racing thermos so the engine can stay cold and run better, but since mine is a daily i need it to warm up to the half way point on the gauge.

if your motor isn't up to temp it will run richer, it's a safety feature as the motor warms up.
the thermo could still be faulty, or your ECT sensor is faulty.
Thermo's are known to be bad after they're changed out

ive heard of new thermos being bad, but i tested mine out before putting it in. ive heard about the ect sensor but have no idea where its at.
It is most likely the ECTS, [sensor] not working properly, although it is just as likely to be the new thermostat.
Easy enough to test, take a spin to get engine temp up, stop and pop the hood, wait and see if rad fan turns on, if it does and gauge is still reading 1/4 the ECTS or the gauge is bad, [or possibly the wiring or connections].
If rad fan does not turn on, block off the rad with cardboard and watch engine temp. gauge, rad fan should come on around 3/4 of the way on the gauge, if it does, pull the thermostat and test it, or replace it, making sure it is installed properly.94
BTW, Rad fan should turn on when engine coolant reaches about 200 degrees F.

i tested the thermo when i got it, it works perfect. the gauge cluster is brand new, so it cant be that. the ect is located under the dizzy, correct?

Just because the cluster is new does not mean it can't be DOA.
Try what I suggested and it will tell you where the problem is.
Sorry, I am not sure where the ECT sensor or the ECT switch is on a 01 ITR. 94

And yeah I'll try it out but would the rad fan cool my car down more.. My problem is that it's staying cold, not over heating.
Blocking off the rad with cardboard will bring the engine coolant temp. up, you should see that on the gauge, and at about 3/4 or so, [around 200 degrees F] the rad fan will come on.
If rad fan turns on and gauge still reads around 1/4 it has to be the ECT sensor that is the problem because engine is reaching proper temp. 94

Have you checked to see if rad fan comes on, or if it does not come on, have you blocked off the rad with cardboard to force engine temp. up so rad fan will turn on? 94
Not yet.
You need to find out what the problem is first, is engine getting up to normal temp. and it is aproblem with the gauge or sending unit, [or possibly wiring] or is the engine temp. not getting up to normal and the tempgauge and sending unit are correct, [1/4] and there is another problem. 94

I have the same problem in my EG hatch with a Type R Radiator.
The engine in this cold 40-50 degree weather is at 125 degrees I have the stock gauge, Hondata s300 and Autometer water temp sensor telling me the same cold temp and this is after a run down the freeway. Lucky I am putting it away for the winter.

my car in the hot and cold reads the same thing though. i got money to blow so im just changing all the posibillitys one at a time
i ordered the sending unit but i stil need to check the wiring..
anyone else with a spoon gauge cluster out there?? what does the gauge read on other peoples spoon cluster? i know on the spoon gauge cluster the mph is in kilometers but i dont think the temp gauge is in kilometers also.. even if it did it should be in the middle, right??

So question is, what does your "spoon" gage face show, actual numbers or just lines and/or colors? 94

If speedo is in Kilometers then it's a good bet temp. gauge will be in Celsius/Centigrade, that would be about 90 degrees C for normal engine temp., or in l337h4l case, about 51.5 degrees C.

Ditto the above^^^
If that middle, just above number is 80, [176 degrees F] then yes, the gauge should indicate at the middle, or above when engine temp. is "normal", not at 1/4.
You still need to find out if the problem is low engine temp. or an incorrect reading.
The simplest test is to see what the gauge reading is when the rad fan turns on, [should be about 90 degrees C].94
