Default Can you cut a Coolant/Water Sensor?

Hey, I know this is a dumb question but here we go... I recently bought some after market gauges for my car(Coolant/Water temperature gauge) And the sensor it came with is too long. Is it possible to cut the piece to make it shorter to fit in the block?

Yeah sure. Most of it is just extra because they know people are going to hack it off anyway rather than get a part that fits.

Can you be more specific what you have as far as a sensor, maybe a pic? Water temp sensor can be mounted inline with the coolant hose which may be where it was designed to be mounted.

Yeah post photos. You shouldn't cut any sensor to "make it fit" and instead find the proper solution to get it to fit in it's current configuration.

If you're set on threading it into the block then get a threaded adapter for it, effectively shimming it.

Why are you stuck on cutting? Do it and report back then.

Now you can't see the sarcasm in grumblemarc's post but beleave me it is there.
Sarcasm doesn't translate well in type.

You CAN NOT cut the sensor, [you can, but it will not work] get the proper sending unit to fit your engine, it's as simple as that. 94
