can a block be removed without removing tranny
You might be able to leave the tranny in but you would still have to unbolt it. It only takes a couple hours to remove the whole engine/tranny together. It would take you more time just jerking around trying to get the engine angled out so thet the input shaft of the tranny comes out of its splines on the clutch.
Just remove it as one.

have a bad block would like to know if i can skip taking of the tranny?????
it could be done. but why? it would be easier to just take the whole thing out and swap tranny over to new block while everything out. if you have experience doing a tranny swap with the block still in the car, you'll understand. just pull that whole thing out as one. good luck

Why would you want to do that? You have to obviously unbold the tranny from the block first. While you're there, just remove the tranny, it'll be much easier working on the engine.
Do it right the firt time and stay away from trouble. It's not worth cutting corners in the long run.

Don't even waste your time thinking about doing that..
It'll be twice as hard as taking the engine out with the tranny.
