cam gear keeps breaking...ANYONE???
Buddy of mine has a d16y5 which is the economy vtec model 96-00 civic. Its boosted now, and he ran it up the street 3x the other day when he completed it and it broke the key in the camgear, just broke right off. I've never heard of anything like this...Said his car shut off soon as it hpnd. Well I went over there last night and put a new camgear on it and put it all back in time and started it up. Car idled for 5min and then he started backing it out and snapped that one the same way. Anyone on here have any slight idea what's going? Someone told him he could have a bad oil pump and the head wasn't getting oil to the cam, but i'm not sure on this one. I've done quite a few builds and swaps and I service a lot but i'm at a loss right now. Any thoughs would be greatly appriciated, car is running on a basemap for 450's, resistor box is wired in, t3/t4 turbo. Its a nice set-up and car and motor are in great shape. thanks.
Went back and figured the problem out. It was the "T" for the oil feed line was screwed in too far and stopped oil flow to the head, and the cam itself was jacked up. Kid bought a y8 head with low mileage to put on. Shitty thing to happen but I got the head in my shop and so far only the cam looks a little scarred up, prob just put a new one in it.

Yea where the oil pressure gauge was, he put that on one side of the T and the oil feed to the other side of the T. Put a new head on it and hooked up an oil pressure gauge and he said he wasn't getting oil pressure still, so he got a new oil pump.
